Tyler McGaughey Dense, shambling, beautifully handmade-sounding. Feels unstuck in time, in the best way - basically this sounds like something I could imagine having heard on a burned CD from a friend of a friend when I was a high school sophomore in 2003, without being a conscious throwback in any clear way. Is it indie? Jazzy emo? Stoner chamber pop? Post-rock with a lot of vocals? Elephant 6 but math-y? Each time I listen, I get no further to figuring this record out. Has good shot at being my AOTY Favorite track: Instant Memory.
